The shingle beach at Millook Haven, Cornwall
On a recent trip to Cornwall, I spent a day at Millook Haven, a gently sweeping cove on the Atlantic coast. Although not obvious in the photo above, the beach here slopes quite steeply, and so it was possible to stay quite close to the water's edge for 30 minutes or so and I was able to make this recording of the gently crashing waves as the incoming tide encroached. I love the sound of the rolling shingle as each wave receeds, and find it quite mesmeric.
To the rear of the beach rise almost vertical cliffs with their deeply folded rock strata. It's possibe to hear the sound reflected from these, but I think this would be a good location for a 4 channel surround recording, where the effect would be much more pronounced.
